THE FIVEHUNDRD MANIFESTO

Why we built a finite internet.

The internet became very good at keeping us scrolling. We want discovery to be good at something else: helping you actually find something worth remembering.

Attention is not the same as discovery

Most feeds learn from what already has attention. Popular things collect more signals, those signals earn more distribution, and more distribution creates even more signals. It is efficient. It is also why the same names, formats and ideas can feel impossible to escape.

Discovery should leave more room for the thing that has not already won.

Finite is a feature

Fivehundrd is being built around a finite visual wall: 500 fixed positions per category. Not an endless catalogue. Not an infinite personalized feed. A surface with edges.

A limit forces a product to make room, change and let things leave. It also lets a person understand what they are looking at. You can arrive, explore and make a choice instead of surrendering the next choice to a feed.

Curiosity should do some of the work

We like the small moment before you know whether something is for you: unfamiliar artwork, a title you have never seen, a creator you do not already follow. That uncertainty is part of discovery.

Fivehundrd is designed around that moment. The point is not to predict everything you will like. The point is to make looking worthwhile again.

Good work deserves a starting line

Independent artists, authors, game makers, podcasters, newsletter writers and creators should have somewhere to be seen before follower counts and mainstream momentum decide whether they deserve attention.

That does not mean every piece of work should become huge. It means being early should still be possible, and getting a fair moment in front of curious people should not require already being famous.

Built for both sides of discovery

Fivehundrd only works if both sides matter. Discoverers should leave with something new. Makers should meet people who arrived because they wanted to find something new.

That is the product we are finishing now across music, indie games, books, creators, podcasts and newsletters.

Find it before everyone else.

Fivehundrd is still in prelaunch. If this sounds like the internet you want to explore, join early access. If you want the factual version first, read the prelaunch FAQ.
